Marriage License

Marriage licenses can be started online. Please read through the information and then scroll to the bottom of the page to begin your application. After you have completed your section, please come to the Clerk's office, located on the 4th Floor of the Cass County Government Building, to complete the process. Please note the following:

    One of the parties needs to be a resident of Cass County.
    You must present valid identification in the form of a state issued i.d., certified copy of birth certificate (translated if not in English), or valid United States passport. IC 31-11-4-6
    If you do not have your current address on your method of identification, you will need to provide a computer generated paper (utility bill, etc.) to provide proof of residency.
    You will need to know the date of your last divorce (if this applies to you.)
    You will need to know the state your parents were born in, the state they reside in now (if living), and your mothers full maiden name.
    The cost of the marriage license is $18.00, cash, money order, or cashier's check. Residents of any other state is $60.00
    Estimated time of completion is 15-20 minutes.
    Hours of Marriage License are Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
    Marriage License is good as soon as you leave the office and valid for 60 days.

The Clerk of Cass County DOES NOT perform marriage ceremonies. You will need to schedule an appointment with a minister or clergy of your choice. 

Applicants at least 18 years of age may marry without special consent. According to IC 31-11-2, persons who are 17 years of age must apply for the license with both parents or the person with legal custody who must sign the consent portion of the application. Individuals 16 years of age or younger must petition the court as shown under IC 31-1-6.
